I adore eating millionaire's cake because it is precisely the kind of cake a millionaire would not eat – unless she is partial to rancid-tasting caramel, sandwiched between cheap-tasting chocolate and crumbled up digestive biscuits, as I am. It is truly the dessert not of the great but of those who aspire to be great, missing its supposed intended target through its integral lack of quality, and delivered keenly to its actual target (the duped) it being a cheap imitation of a luxury dessert.
Is it not clear many voters view politics as an exercise in fandom, supporting the red team or the blue team with the same fetishism and obsessions they offer as tribute to their preferred football team? As far as I can see this simplistic hero worship accounts for much of the pandemic blindness citizens of the world have towards the biases, lies and propaganda delivered to them with enthusiasm on a daily basis.
People's simplified understanding of politics, in conjunction with their simplistic aspirations, allows many people to actively, willingly subscribe to and accept the propaganda being fed to them. Essentially for these people political belief is no different to taste in music, choice of clothes, or one's preferred football team; partly guided by natural personality, partly guided by the sort of person they would like to be.
People willingly configure themselves to be perceptible to right wing propaganda. At an early age they ask themselves 'What person do I want to be?' and having bought the lie of social inequality their answer is; a rich person, a respected person. They conflate intelligence with success, gleefully assuming those with money (whether gain through actual success or not) are innately superior to other humans, and they aspire to be just like them; and with that aspiration comes emulation: they vote the same way, and read the same newspapers, the newspapers of the 'successful', actively allowing themselves to be duped by right wing bile, force feeding themselves the propaganda that tells them their voting choice is right, the propaganda that ensures they will
never be like the people they want to be, never successful, and, ultimately, propaganda that compels them to re-elect the parties that implement the policies that stops them succeeding.
Over and out for now, guys!
